
To increase network security, Vanderbilt has begun offering Malware Prevention service to departments. Malware Prevention has several benefits, the most notable features are increased internet connection speed and secure browsing to protect against threats such as viruses, worms, and zero-day vulnerabilities.

1) Malware Only - With this service, Malware Prevention blocks websites that are known to contain viruses and other malware as well as those used for phishing attacks. It includes Botnet Protection, Internet-Scale Malware/Botnet Protection, and Phishing Protection.
2) Malware and Content Filtering - This service provides all the protection included in the Malware Only service, plus Malware Prevention blocks categories of sites that could potentially violate Vanderbilt Policy as well as Federal and State law
Note:Since blocking is done by categories, sites that you might need to accomplish your job may be inadvertently blocked. Please see the section titled Malware Prevention False Positives and Creating Exceptions below.
Malware Prevention False Positives and Creating Exceptions: If you need access to a resource that is blocked by Malware Prevention, you may contact your helpdesk or local IT support person and have a ticket assigned to the ITS Information Security Team. You will be contacted via email in one to two business days.
Emergency Access (office hours) - For emergency access during office hours, please contact your helpdesk or local IT support person and have a priority ticket assigned to the ITS information Security Team.
Emergency Access (after hours) - For emergency access after hours, please contact the Network Operations Center (NOC) at 2-2954 to have the ITS security on-call resource paged.
