On Oct. 2, VU Gmail will become the exclusive email service for Vanderbilt University undergraduates. To claim their Gmail account prior to Oct. 2, students should visit http://its.vanderbilt.edu/gmail and follow the instructions. All remaining undergraduate mailboxes will be automatically directed to Gmail by Information Technology Services Oct. 2.

It’s Here! VUexchange Migrations 

In an ongoing effort to maintain reliable, available, serviceable, and secure infrastructure, ITS plans to migrate campus subnets to new DHCP servers beginning Thursday, July 9.

To see a schedule of subnet migrations, login to the DHCP migrations website with your VUnetID and password. No outages are expected, but some printers and computers may need to be power cycled to reconnect to the network properly.

Vanderbilt University is pleased to announce that graduating undergraduate students can now continue to use their VU Gmail account, @vanderbilt.edu, after graduation.  Students using VU Gmail accounts will be able to continue using their accounts indefinitely.

The DNS policy governing domain name usage at Vanderbilt has been updated on the ITS website. The updated policy more clearly addresses the process to register and host non-Vanderbilt domain names and clarifies changes to sub-domain management. Click here to view the newly updated DNS policy.

February, 2009 – The last weekend in February was marked with a major milestone and accomplishment for the Vanderbilt voice network. The hardware and software for the voice network were successfully upgraded with very minimal downtime.

December, 2008 — The ITS Software Store will roll out enhancements to its online system for purchasing software Dec. 1. The enhancements allow Vanderbilt departments to buy and download software for use on Vanderbilt computers without using the 1180 form.

Employees and students have used this storefront for several years to purchase software for personal use by credit card.

November, 2008 — Vanderbilt began routing Internet2 and Internet 1 traffic onto a new 10 Gbps circuit. This new circuit increases available research bandwidth by 15 times the previous capacity! Vanderbilt's new 10 Gbps circuit to Atlanta, activated Dec. 1, increases Internet2 research bandwidth from 622 megabits per second to 9 gigabits per second. The other 10 percent (1 gigabit per second) is allocated to Vanderbilt's primary commodity-based Internet connection.

Vanderbilt Community members interested in the much-awaited Apple iPhone 3G can synch their Exchange email, contacts, and calendar with the devie and obtain a discount on their service plan through AT&T.

The new iPhone 3G features access to a faster wireless network and support for Exchange ActiveSync so the phone can be synched directly with an Exchange server.
