iPhone's @ Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt Community members interested in the much-awaited Apple iPhone 3G can synch their Exchange email, contacts, and calendar with the devie and obtain a discount on their service plan through AT&T.
The new iPhone 3G features access to a faster wireless network and support for Exchange ActiveSync so the phone can be synched directly with an Exchange server.
Instructions for synching the 3G with Vanderbilt Exchange servers are available through Vanderbilt Information Technology Services (ITS) at http://its.vanderbilt.edu/vuexchange/iphone. If you need assistance, check with your local technology support provider or call the Vanderbilt ITS Help Desk at 615-343-9999.
Vanderbilt students, faculty, and staff qualify for a discounted iPhone service plan through AT&T. See details and get the discount code in the AT&T section at http://its.vanderbilt.edu/cellphone/.
The new generation iPhone also supports a huge array of third-party applications available from iTunes with additional information at the iPhone App Store.
Earlier this year, Vanderbilt created a version of its Web site specifically for the iPhone, http://www.vanderbilt.edu on the phone or http://www.vanderbilt.edu/iphone on other platforms, that features some of the most used-features of the university main site and showcases the university’s content in iTunes U and on YouTube.
For an in-depth review of the new phone’s features and capabilities, see the CNET review of the Apple iPhone 3G.
ITS also has instructions on configuring first-generation iPhones for use with a VUmail email account, see http://its.vanderbilt.edu/vumail/iphone.
