Exchange Service Issue

During the week, up to 1600 Vanderbilt electronic mail users and people with whom these users corresponded experienced degraded system performance due to technical issues with the legacy mail environment.

Exchange 2007 Scheduled Maintenance

On Thursday, September 24th, ITS will be installing monthly security patches to the Microsoft Exchange 2007 environment between 11 PM and 3:00 AM.  During this time, users on Exchange 2007 will experience a brief outage while the patches are being installed, and the servers restarted.   Any mail sent during this time will queue up as normal.

ITS Scheduled Maintenance on the Red Hat Network Satellite server

ITSwill be applying a security and bug fix patch to the Red Hat Network Satellite server on Wednesday, 09/23/09, between the hours of 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Duringthis time, the Red Hat Network Satellite service will be unavailable while the server is restarted.

List Service Outage

There was an issue with listservice this morning that resulted in delays of email messages sent throughmailing lists.  This issue has been resolved and mail traffic is flowingthrough the list service as normal.

Exchange 2007 Server Maintenance

OnWednesday, September 16th, ITS will be making server upgrades to the MicrosoftExchange 2007 environment between 10PM and 11:45PM.  During this time,users on Exchange 2007 will experience an approximate 10-20 minuteoutage while the upgrades are being installed, andthe servers restarted.

Scheduled Maintenance to Vanderbilt Network Load Balancing- 09/12/2009

On Saturday, 09/12/2009, between 12AM and 1AM, ITS will beperforming maintenance on the network load balancing system.  During this time,no outage is anticipated but users could experience slight delays in Exchange2007, Epassword authentication, Shibboleth authentication, Google web searches,and Sitemason web content.

WINS Maintenance

ITS will be  performing maintenance on WINS1 between 10:00 PM on Saturday, 9/12 and 2:00 AM on Sunday, 9/13.  During this time WINS1(129.59.1.15) will be unavailable.  WINS2 (129.59.1.17) will be available during this time.  Some clients may experience issues resolving NetBIOS names during this time.  If your servers are not resolvable by NetBIOS names after this time, run the following command (nbtstat –RR) from an elevated command prompt to manually force a WINS update.

Public Folder Issue

Last night two new public folder servers were added to the University’s Exchange 2007 environment.  The data in public folders in the VUExchange 2003 is currently being replicated to the new servers.  While replication of the data is taking place, the content is available for Outlook users.  As data for a particular folder is replicated to the new servers it also becomes available for OWA and Entourage users.

Scheduled maintenance to the Vanderbilt DNS & DHCP Environment- 09/09/2009

OnWednesday evening, 09/09/2009, between 10PM and 2AM, ITS will be installingupdates to the DNS/DHCP environment.  During this time, DNS/DHCP changeswill not be available.  There will also be brief interruptions of serviceto the individual DNS servers as the changes are made, but both DNS and DHCP services will remain functional and noimpact is anticipated to the users duringthis time.

Exchange Public Folder Upgrade

ITS in partnership withMicrosoft resources plans to add new Exchange 2007 Public Folder servers to theenterprise email environment Wednesday, September 9, 2009 between 7:00 pm-7:00am.  Public folders will not be availablefor the duration of the change via Outlook Web Access by Vmail users (Exchange2007).
