This solution allows to you connect to the Vanderbilt network via a web browser capable of using ssl encryption. It uses ssl to open a secure connection, commonly referred to as a tunnel, between your computer or device and the ssl device here at Vanderbilt. This allows you to access information here at Vanderbilt via the Internet without the traffic being readable to others.

All faculty, staff, and students can use the SSL VPN (Network Connect). You no longer need to request an account to use Network Connect VPN client.
Mac users: If you encounter difficulties with the Network Connect (VUMC SSL VPN) client, you can request a switch to the Junos Pulse SSL VPN client. Click here to learn more.
The SSL VPN uses the same VPN accounts as the old VPN solution so you don’t need to request a new account if you already have one for the old VPN solution.
The ssl VPN supports using vpn.mc.vanderbilt.edu on Vista/Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit versions).
Compatability warning: This program requires Active X and it should be run in IE 7 or greater. It may be possible to run this program through Chrome and Firefox with Java installed but these browsers aren't officially supported and can be prone to bugs.
The ssl VPN supports OSX 64 bit and you no longer have to manually setup the client. It will ask to install the latest client (if you don't already have it) when you login to vpn.mc.vanderbilt.edu.
To help meet the needs of Vanderbilt staff for easier remote access while preserving confidential information, the Enterprise Network Security Team has implemented an SSL VPN solution. These devices are located within the Vanderbilt network and are used to help preserve data confidentiality and data integrity.

This allows you to access information here at Vanderbilt via the Internet without the traffic being readable to others.
Installation instructions are below.
Installation will vary with browser type and version but should be similar to the following:
1.) Go to https://vpn.mc.vanderbilt.edu
2.) Enter your VUNET ID and Password then Click Sign In
3.) a. Select Network Connect if presented with multiple VPN options
b. It may ask if you want to enable Active-X, etc. Click Yes or Run
4.) If you see a message “This website wants to install the following add-on: 'JuniperSetupClient.cab'..." Click on it to install
5.) It may take several minutes to install the applet so please be patient.
6.) If you see a Security Warning about installing software, click Save File and Install
7.) Some users may need to restart their browser during the initial connection attempt after the applet has been installed. This should only be required on the first connection attempt and when a new version of the applet is released. Most users shouldn't need to do this.
8.) It will automatically try and connect after you enter your username and password.
9.) Once connected you should see the following screen. To start using the vpn click on Start button where it says Network Connect.
10.) At this point, you are virtually on the Vanderbilt network and (if your LAN Manager has set it up) can use tools such as Remote Desktop, network drive mappings, etc. For additional information on what you can do, please see your LAN Manager.
11.) Once you are finished using the VPN, you will need to click on Sign Out (top right of browser window) , or shut down your computer to disconnect from the VPN. Closing the browser does NOT sign you out.
