Vanderbilt Information Technology Services (ITS) purchased online Computer Based Training (CBT) modules for Vista, Office 2007, and SharePoint. They are available online to the Vanderbilt Community.

Anyone with a current VUnetID and e-password can access the training for free.

“New technology is coming at us all the time, such as Microsoft's new products MS Office 2007, SharePoint 2007, and Vista,” said Esfandiar Zafar, ITS Senior Director and Chief Operating Officer.

“By making computer based training available to the Vanderbilt community, we hope to soften the learning curve associated with these new products. Our ultimate goal is to ease the frustration people may have learning all the new features and to help users avoid having to dedicate time for training classes. The CBTs allow you to take the training on your schedule and learn at your pace.”

Links for Vista, Office 2007 and SharePoint training, respectively, are below. There are several modules for each product.

Another training aid is available from Microsoft. It’s a downloadable Getting Started tab add-in for each of the Office 2007 products. It allows you to use the familiar Office 2003 commands you may be familiar with and then shows you how to accomplish the same task in the 2007 interface. The CBT modules are short Flash movies. They are produced by Shores Media LLC. You can watch the modules in order or jump directly to one that interests you. Modules for Office 2007 include Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer.
