Centra Live

With the addition of Centra Live to the ITS suite of collaboration services, members of the Vanderbilt community now have a powerful tool for online collaboration, communication, and learning. All that is required is a web browser with internet connectivity. Users may take advantage of Voice Over IP (VOIP) technology while conferencing. VOIP has the advantage of enabling the user to participate in a conference from their computer, without needing a phone connection to hear audio. Since both video and audio are transmitted over the internet, recording the session captures both.

Getting an account for the Centra Live Service is easy. Simply fill out the Request a Centra Account form. Once your account is created, perform a System Check, via the link on the login page. Once your system check is complete, you can then begin using Centra.

Centra accommodates three types of collaborative experiences:

1. eMeetings for spontaneous and scheduled, interactive, small-group type experiences.
2. Conferences for large, one-to-many presentation activities.
3. Symposium for interactive, virtual classroom events.

While eMeetings are sufficient for most collaborative sessions, some users, such as faculty, may require the greater functionality offered by Symposia and Conferences. In order to create symposia and conferences, users must be assigned Event Manager privileges. Event Managers must be approved by their Local Support Provider.

Getting Help

Help is available from a variety of sources. There is an online Tutorial link on the Centra login page. Once logged in, you also have access to a Help link that provides access to PDF files covering Centra essentials.

The Quick Links list on this page affords access to a variety of documents covering not only essentials of Centra, but "tips and tricks" and best practices as well. More in-depth Centra guides can be accessed at the Saba Support Library.

Phone support is available to students and event participants at 888-617-7499 from 6am-11pm M-F, 7am-7pm S-S CST. (Those outside North America must dial 781-869-4255.) Administrators and event managers should call 800-994-9418 (those outside North America call 781-994-1144) between 7am-7pm M-F CST.
