Streaming Media Services
Event Capture
Live - ITS can create simultaneous streams of video and/or audio in Flash, Windows Media and Real formats for events originating on Vanderbilt's campus and also create archive files in these formats for later viewing. (Events may also be simultaneously broadcast live on TeleVU Channel 8 if desired.) Normally the event organizer is responsible for providing audio and video (A/V) inputs to our on-site streaming media appliance and for ensuring there is an Ethernet connection within close proximity to the A/V input source. When necessary, ITS can provide a Canon GL2 video camera and Sennheiser wireless microphones with operator for one event at any given time.
Delayed event (archived) streaming - ITS can provide a camera and operator for delayed archiving. In this case the event is encoded but not streamed live or recorded directly on the camera's mini-DV tape (two-hour recording time per tape) and converted to streaming media formats as soon as possible after the event, usually within one business day. On-site Ethernet connection is not required for this type of service, which means delayed streaming events can be captured from off-campus locations.
Event capture is provided on a first come, first-served basis and support is normally only available for one or two events at any given time, depending on staff and resource availability. To view currently scheduled streaming events, see the Streaming Media Event Calendar (web view).

Streaming Content Storage
ITS can assist in uploading existing content to our Helix and Flash servers. This content must be in Windows Media, Real, Quicktime or MP3 format to be eligible for storing and streaming on the Helix server or Flash or H.264 format for streaming via the Flash server. Requests of this type are generally completed within one business day, subject to staff availability.
Media Conversion
ITS can help with media transfers to support streaming formats provided the source materials are on DVD or mini-DV tape. Requests of this type are generally completed within one business day, subject to staff and resource availability.
Podcast Studio
Vanderbilt ITS turned a former office into a podcast studio to better accommodate this increasingly important form of communication. The studio features a smart board, high-quality microphones, a blue screen backdrop, sound deadening insulation and drapes, a cordless presenter for advancing PowerPoint frames, and both a PC and a Mac equipped with high-quality webcams and microphones and a variety of software for producing and editing podcasts, including Camtasia Studio, SnagIt, MovieMaker Pro & MusicMaker on the PC and Final Cut on the Mac.
