1. Why is my name not in the directory?
If you have not done so already, you need to activate your VUnetID. Go to the VUnet page and follow the instructions. While activating your VUnetID, you can choose to publish your entry by making sure "Publish my name and e-mail BCA in VUdirectory" is choosen on the form.
If you have already activated your VUnetID, you can go to the Modify Personal Options page and follow the directions.
If you have done the above and are still not listed, please e-mail VUdirectory@vanderbilt.edu.

2. How do I add, modify, or remove my entry?
To change any aspect of your entry, go to the Modify Personal Options page and follow the directions.
This page also lets you "unlist" your entry if you so desire.

3. How do I get someone's e-mail address if my search didn't work?
You have several alternatives:
1. Further searching. Try variations of your search string (ie. what you typed). For example, if looking for "Edmund Spenser Davis", try "Ed" for the first name, and "Davis" for the last name. You might be surprised!
2. Try to locate the person's departmental (or unit) home page. The VUdirectory page has links to Other Vanderbilt Resources that may be helpful. The Registry may help you determine departmental (or unit) membership.
3. Try placing a phone call to the person or that person's department (or unit). The Vanderbilt University Operator is available at 615-322-7311 (0 on campus). Again, the Registry may help you determine departmental (or unit) membership.

4. Why am I listed under organization X? Where is organization Y?
Student entries are placed according to the "school affiliation" indicated by the University Registar.
Faculty and Staff are more complicated. The Human Resource Services "Department Code" is mapped into a set of departments roughly derived (by a human) from the Registry. This is done because the HRS "Department Codes" do not reflect an oganizational structure suitable for a directory. Unfortunately, this mapping causes some departments to not appear, while allowing others to exist. Every effort has been made to create a department structure that works for everyone.
This structure is certainly open to change, but the absense of suitable data does limit the options. Concerns or omissions can be addressed by sending mail to VUdirectory@vanderbilt.edu.
If you do not like where your entry is listed, send mail to VUdirectory@vanderbilt.edu. Your concern will be addressed.

5. How can I get a copy or bulk listing of this database?
You cannot. This directory's database will NOT be supplied to anyone. So please do not ask.

Limits have been placed on the number of entries returned to prevent entry "harvesting" from this directory. This may result in searching difficulties for users. These features have been implemented to protect the privacy of students, faculty, and staff at the University.
Most of the time, reaching these limits indicates an incorrect search. Typing a "last name" in the "first name" field is a typical example of such a mistake.
