Configuring Your iPhone to Use VUmail
Follow these steps to configure your iPhone to use Vanderbilt's VUmail e-mail system:
- If this is the first account you are setting up, tap the Mail icon. Otherwise from your iPhone's home screen select Settings > Mail > Add Account.
- Select Other > IMAP.
- Enter your name in the Name field and your Vanderbilt email address in the Address field.
- In the Description field, enter "Vanderbilt email" or the designation you choose.
- Configure Incoming Mail Server as follows:
- Host Name: X.mail.vanderbilt.edu
- 'X' above represents the first letter of your VUnetID
- Username: your VUnetID
- Password: your epassword
- Host Name: X.mail.vanderbilt.edu
- Configure Outgoing Mail Server as follows:
- Host Name: X.smtp.vanderbilt.edu:25
- 'X' above represents the first letter of your VUnetID
- User Name: leave this field blank
- Password: leave this field blank
- Host Name: X.smtp.vanderbilt.edu:25
- Click Save.
Note: If an error message displays, go to your iPhone home page and select Settings > Mail > Vanderbilt Email. Click Advanced near the
bottom of the screen and ensure Incoming Uses SSL is set to On. - Customize your mail settings as desired. A synopsis of Advanced options follows:
- Mailbox Behaviors enables you to specify behaviors for drafts, sent, and deleted emails.
- Drafts Mailbox should be set to 'Drafts'
- Sent Mailbox should be set to 'Sent Items'
- Deleted Mailbox should be set to 'Trash'
- Deleted Messages specifies how to handle deleted emails. Select a time period after which they will be removed, or select Never [remove].
- Settings contains SSL options and allows you to specify your IMAP root level:
- Incoming Uses SSL: On
- Outgoing Uses SSL: Off
- IMAP Path Prefix - leave at the default '/'
- Mailbox Behaviors enables you to specify behaviors for drafts, sent, and deleted emails.
