Mounting Instructions for Macintosh

Most users will have two methods to map VUspace:

VUspace Mounter:

The VUspace Mounter utility is a small program that can automatically map your VUspace for you. Some locations (like computer labs, for example) may not have the VUspace Mounter utility available. In that case, you will need to manually mount your VUspace.

Connecting in OS 10.1.x and later*:

* If connecting from off campus, you must first connect to the VPN.

  1. From the Go menu, select Connect to Server....
  2. Enter smb://vuspace-X/user (where X is the first letter of your VUnetID - e.g., smb://vuspace-p/user for VUnetID personab)
  3. Connect dialog with sample address

  4. Enter your VUnetID in the Username field and your password.
  5. A volume named "user" (your personal VUspace) is now mounted on your desktop.


Connecting in OS 7.5 to 9.x:

  1. From the Apple Menu, select Chooser.
  2. In the upper left pane, select AppleShare.
    If your Chooser does not have an AppleShare icon. You will need to install AppleShare from your System installation disk(s).
  3. Click Server IP Address.

  4. The following window will appear. Enter vuspace-x.vanderbilt.edu where x is the first letter of your VUnetID, and click Connect.

  5. Enter your vanderbilt+<vunetid> in the Name field and your password. Click Connect.

  6. Select the share you wish to access from the list. Your personal space is labeled with your VUnetID. Click OK .
  7. You will now see your VUspace mounted on your desktop. Please make an alias (from the File menu) to your VUspace and use the alias to connect in the future.

If your Chooser does not have an AppleShare icon. You will need to install AppleShare from your System installation disk(s).

If your Chooser does not have a Connect to Server button when you select AppleShare, you will need to download the latest version of AppleShare from Apple.


There is a VUspace Mounter available for the Mac. The VUspace Mounter can make it easier for you to access VUspace.


To disconnect from your VUspace, drag the server's icon (named "User" in OS X, and your VUnetID in OS 9) to the trash.
